Astronomer, a data company headquartered in New York City, announced Friday that its board of directors has launched a formal investigation following the circulation of a viral video allegedly featuring its CEO.
The clip, which has racked up over 55 million views on TikTok, shows a man and woman embracing and then ducking to avoid the camera after being shown on the Jumbotron during Coldplay’s July 16 concert in Boston. Frontman Chris Martin narrates the scene, quipping, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
Online users quickly speculated about the pair’s identities, with many identifying the man as Andy Byron, CEO of Astronomer. Neither individual in the video has publicly confirmed their identity.
In a statement posted on LinkedIn, Astronomer addressed the situation:
“Astronomer is deeply committed to the values and standards that have defined our culture since the beginning. Leadership at our company is expected to demonstrate integrity and accountability.”
The company confirmed that its board is actively investigating the matter and added that more information will be shared soon. Astronomer also clarified that no other company employees appeared in the video and dismissed reports suggesting Byron had issued a personal statement as inaccurate.
