Former Thomas Partey has been charged with two further counts of rape in the United Kingdom, following a new complaint that prosecutors say relates to an alleged incident in 2020.

The 32-year-old had previously been charged in July with five counts of rape involving two women and one count of sexual assault concerning a third woman. With the latest charges, the case now involves allegations from four separate complainants.

According to authorities, the new counts arise from a complaint made in August, prompting additional inquiries by the Metropolitan Police. Investigators are examining an alleged offence dating back to 2020, distinct from the incidents cited in earlier indictments.

Partey is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 13 March for an initial hearing in relation to the expanded case. He has denied all allegations. In September, he entered not guilty pleas at Southwark Crown Court concerning the earlier charges and was granted conditional bail.

Prosecutors have stated that the alleged offences detailed in last year’s indictment occurred between 2021 and 2022, during Partey’s tenure at Arsenal. He was formally charged shortly after his contract with the club ended at the close of June.

The investigation began in February 2022, when police received an initial report of rape. A trial, expected to be presided over by a High Court judge, is scheduled to commence on 2 November.

Following his departure from the Premier League, Partey signed a one-year contract with Spanish club Villarreal CF. The move was confirmed during the summer, after charges had already been filed.

The Ghana international joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in October 2020 for a reported transfer fee of £45.3 million. He made 130 league appearances under manager Mikel Arteta during his time at the club.

His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, has previously stated that her client rejects all allegations and intends to contest the charges through the legal process.
