The U.S. Embassy in Zimbabwe has announced a suspension of routine visa services, citing concerns related to national security and public safety. This decision to halt consular operations was issued by authorities in Washington.
However, this suspension does not affect Zimbabwean nationals who already possess valid U.S. visas.
In June, an internal memo from the U.S. State Department revealed plans to impose visa restrictions on several African countries, citing issues such as unreliable identity documents, weak passport security, and some nations’ reluctance or refusal to accept deported citizens.
Zimbabwe was included among the affected countries, alongside Kenya, Angola, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria.
Additionally, during the same period, the U.S. implemented travel bans on Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Libya, Somalia, and Sudan. Increased travel restrictions were also introduced for Burundi, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
